Love & H2O

Love & H2O

A Poem by Ellen Hammond

Love resembles H2O,

As its patient ebb and flow,

Smooths a jagged heart of stone.

Inner beauty thus is shown.

Inner beauty, in its turn

Incites passion's sultry burn

Love and lust commingled, rise

Vapor forms before our eyes

Vapor raptured, unaware

The onset of Arctic air

Erose edges once more form

From thick ice of wintry storm

Ice-packed heart is numbed to pain

'Til warm waters stream again

When embraced by H2O

Beware of the undertow

This was wonderful and witty, I love it! It has a hint of humor mixed in with the seriousness of the subject. I always have great admiration for that. It reminds of life because some great wit once said God is the greatest comedian of all playing to an audience who are afraid to laugh. I do hope that poor heart thaws out again! Who knows? Maybe it will be warm enough to break the ice! lol

This is a great write. Love the comparison of water to love. Water is the most patient powerful force known to us. I love the fact that you have brought these two into a parallel meaningful dance here. The last line was perfect, reminding us that with any powerful force, one must bring respect to the table. :)

Heart turned stone cold and with time to thaw to once love again. Excellent poem! The words flow from a feeling to reveal a action of moving on! I have read this poem at least 12 times and it gives me alot to think about, thanks!

I love the comparision of love to water...both so precious of comodoties, and without either we would cease to exist. And both can kill, in excessive doses...
nice job my friend!..:)

This is really beautiful. Descriptive, powerful and transient. You have a true gift lady. God bless & thank you for the gift of sharing it!

A wonderful and a wise write, my friend. This along with "The Sea Around Us", say more in their conjoined forty lines or so about the Nature of Love and our place within it, than any forty lines or two poems I've ever seen. Thank you.

A great story in a few lines.
You talk of love, warmed by the
water`s flow. The wet in all of
love a moist endeavor and then
it`s fun.
Great story ! Great poem !
Great writer.

The warm ebb and flow of H20 as long as the love lasts. But when it is withdrawn or over with the heart once again freezes and does not the warmth of the flowing waters. The coldness forms a crust around the heart that is a form of protection, to keep it from feeling until once again love comes along and with its flowing warm, caressing waters is able to thaw the ice encased heart. But as with everything there is the dangerous possiblity of forgetting to be a little cautious and then be pulled under and drowning in the undertow of the warm and inviting waters. Beautiful writing with a touch of wit. Loved this poetic work.

What a clever write! You have managed to blow us out the H20 with this one...Your imagination is astounding. Water and Love what a great association. This is another masterpiece to be sure. Smiles M.
