The Care and Tending of Fire

The Care and Tending of Fire

A Poem by Emily B

I grow bold

sometimes

entranced by blue flames.

I pile on all

my inhibitions

and watch the blaze.

Now my doubts

and now my fears.

Flicker and flare.

Enraptured by the heat

I shed the layers

that separate us.

Throw them on the fire

one by one.

Desire grows red hot.

I like the idea of this figurative perpetual fire, where we can simply toss all our baggage, all our fears , everything that holds us back, that has that potential of separating two souls. while there may be those moments where this occurs , I am not sure we can ever really turn the things we carry from our pasts to ashes. We do have that ability to move past them, to gather our courage and go on despite them, and yes, sometimes we find someone who can share the burden of them, making them not quite so heavy, not quite so scary, leading us into those shining moments when, however briefly, we are able to set them down althogether.

This is a wonderful piece. I like fire and I like all that can be drawn artistically from it. Your word are so powerful and I think that this is one that can be interpreted in many different ways to suit your reader. You always have a way of appealing to many different readers.

Ohhhhhhh Em's been dancing naked in the moonlight, hehehehe, I know that trepidation anywhere when coupled with elation of the core.. Owhah, I feel like I shouldnt look, but the naughty gets the better of me and fires make me blushhhhhh... Oh what a cosy winter over yonder is spied though the bluest skies, and hark, the angels do sing thick upon thine inner eyes ;)

I love this, Emily..the way the passion builds up with the fire..
also how the inhibitions are shed. Very sensual, warm and expressive.
love the opening line...so bold.

Have you read Orlando's piece about the recycling plant ['JOB SATISFACTION AT LAST! I think it's called]? Seems everyone has fresh starts and cleansing on their minds at the moment; I guess it's the time of year for such reflections.
Yours has more of a sexual [I think] theme than his, however.
A fresh angle on the 'fire'/'heat' of love and lust, perhaps.

Or, perhaps, one even more refreshing than my ignorant assumptions; BrightEyes seems to have interpreted it as something purer - the breaking down of communication barriers and such.

Either [or neither] way - an intriguing and strong piece.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
