whiskey and words

whiskey and words

A Poem by Emily B

whiskey may be
important, but
i swear,
i've gotten drunker
on words
than i ever did
on bourbon
and I never
mix
the two

Love this because it speaks to me. I love how you can write so much sober. I'm like that too become too tired to write if I drink too much. Yet, I love the taste of whiskey. What makes this poem so perfect and superlative is the mixture of two concepts people wouldn't usually write about together, many would speak about them together, there is an honesty and bravery in being able to pen this sublime poem.

it's cool that it hits u slowly like a shot, that ur implying pure silence while u drink bourbon with ur ending..it hits like the 3rd or 4th shot of Jim Beam however much later

personally I'm taking a month off from drinking anything..i can't promise not to attempt an opus though...maybe I'll try music instead

Alas, I've learned the hard way...don't write and drive.

Stunning clarity in these words. Love it.

"Well put," the old guy said, sipping lukewarm coffee and typing wildly.

Love this.

mixing the two can be like playing with nitroglycerine. The hang-over then, is the least of your problems. lol

It sounds though as if you have your bourbon and metaphors well separated.

You bet. And the hangover feels much better.

Saw this one and had to comment as the message a bit of a lesson....drunkenness provokes us into saying words that hurt others; words that should be used with discretion... Never mix the two.... Awesome.
