I Settled for a Flower

I Settled for a Flower

A Poem by Duckey

I settled for a flower
Because I did not realize
That I was a garden
Full of life
Full of Love

I offered you roses and fruit
Seclusion and quiet
Soft grass to lay your head
Sweet air for you to breathe
And a moment alone

You offered me nothing
Instead you brought weeds
Which strangled my roots
And bugs which clawed at my petals
Killing my garden
And re-building yours

I started to die
The trees lost their leaves
Petals withered and fell
Beautiful birds had long flown north
Now there was nothing

I settled for a flower
Which using my soil, destroyed me
And it grew into a mangled canopy of rotting leaves
Blocking the sunlight from ever reaching the ground
The last rays of hope

Now i am a flower
Who will no longer settle for a garden
Because a garden could never love
Something as insignificant as me
