Broken Pen

Broken Pen

A Poem by Enitte
"

This is one of my most common fears for the future. That technology one will robe us from our ability to write on a simple sheet of paper.

"

They say that a pen is sharper than the knife,

That it can move mountains and people’s hearts.

However, that strong motion that the pen always had

Is slowly being replaced and weaken;

by a push of a button and a single click with the hand.

I fear and I wonder in how it would end

That our future grandchildren will grow ignorant and plain.

It is sad and frightening to even think

That they will know more about Egypt and the Mayans

Than our own culture that wasn’t written in stone or ink.

I truly have to say out of all of your pieces I have read thus far, this is my most favorite. Not only did you capture the essance of the Spainish culture, but you captured the essance of all of the writers in past centuries. As writers we all wonder with technology advancing very day will the simple things like a pen and a small piece of paper vafice in the now modern age of electronics.

I have to admit that this generation is getting more and more ni'ave about things. They would rather watch television and go on the Internet than read a piece of work that someone took the time to write. Granted those things are all good and well in there own time, but after a while they tend to dull out and get extremely boring. So much that one begins to think to himself "I'm going online to update a little box called a status, and then going on my friends pages to see what they wrote in their boxes for the day and then Im going to comment on them." Hence the invention of Facebook, seems a little plain doesn't it? Just my opinion, I also have one as well, but I have thought about deleting it from time to time. Overall, great work. And thank you for reviewing 'A Letter to the Lost and Wounded' as I have said before I wrote it two years ago and was hesitant to put it up because I thought it was too personal. But, I had to my mission is to help people with my writing as well as become a published author someday. So from me to you I want to say Thank You once again.
