The Sparrow

The Sparrow

A Poem by Eva Rosehill
"

We do dream of such freedom..

"

As the sun spills over the horizon,
Orange light floods across the fields,
Illuminating the distant land, the bountiful, golden yields,

There, lies a young, swift sparrow,
Which from out those crops emerges,
And greets the dawn, with wide spread wings,
And in the sky it diverges,

That little sparrow then rides the breeze,
Tracing aimless patterns as it goes by,
In a spectacular show of twists and turns,
As he dares to claim the sky,

The sparrow, it knows no boundries,
It has no rules or cage,
It glides with such ease and unfaltered grace,
For it's sprirt will never age,

There are no walls to isolate,
No windows to peer out of and yearn,
You have no master to answer to,
And from no mistakes to learn,

As I watch from my fogged window now,
I envy you, little sparrow,
As chances of such freedom for me,
Will remaim sparce and narrow.

One of my all time favorite singer and songwriter was an English man, Sir Elton John who composed the song Skyline Pigeon . Very classic and popular song in the late 60's and early 70's and even until today... It is timeless ...

This poem has a lot of similarities in its theme and wording ...however this one is a little different ...its aiming for great heights, daring to claim the sky, a hybrid bird perhaps - a Skyline Sparrow ? How I wish that my Lonely Sparrow could dream and aim to fly like yours and also dare to claim the sky ! I'm very impressed , You're a maverick poet ...and still in your embryonic stage ...The possibilities are endless for you once you've reached your full potential ...

Thank you! I will be sure to read some of your work and return the kind words.
Your talent far excedes the number of your years, Eva. This is poignantly told and ever so gently touches the heart of its reader with all the urgency "to fly".

"I envy you, little sparrow,
As chances of such freedom for me,
Will remaim sparce and narrow."

So beautiful...and so nice to meet you!

Eva, Oh to be that little sparrow, to fly graceful and carefree...

I think at one time or another we all wish to be that free - whether it is the constraints put upon us growing up or the responsiblity we have as adults...

that is what dreams are for.
dream on little sparrow...you will fly
