A Table Set For Two

A Table Set For Two

A Poem by Evan Eville

I was absent hunger at a table set for two,
I came upon starvation as I sat and thought of you,
No appetite in this moonlit night, I would wait upon your ghost,
As I wearily mourned my dreadful loss of that which I loved most.

Darkness fell upon me in this dim and lifeless night,
With nothing but a silent supper capturing my sight,
I dreamt of all I could not have, and of all I'd never see,
I prayed for my elusive death, but it would not come for me.

My sanity escaped me at a table set for two,
My memories now fleeing me,  and all that I once knew,
I found myself alone amidst a cluttered, clumsy world,
I hoped you weren't watching as my madness came unfurled.

I was a victim of denial at a table set for two,
I thought I heard your whispers, yet I knew it wasn't true,
So I found myself opressed within my shroud of misery,
Knowing all that once had died in you, has surely died in me.

An excellent poem, Evan. You write with a generous style that encourages us to sympathize with this scene of sadness. It seems written from the heart too and for that I am sorry.
