A Beautiful Lie

A Beautiful Lie

A Poem by Mairead

I dreamt we were together again,
Lying underneath the stars
Just you and I side by side,
In place that was truly ours,
Watching as the colours streaked,
Across the darkened sky,
A picture of tranquility,
A haven for you and I.

The dancing lights overhead,
The silence all around,
No words need spoken,
As we're sprawled out on the ground,
No chirps from the grasshoppers,
No whooshing of a breeze,
Things that remind me,
It's all just make believe.

Taking your hand in mine,
I bring my focus back to the sky,
Ignoring all my logical thoughts,
Sinking deeper into the lie,
Reality is too painful,
I have to come here to survive,
To trade a world where you're not there,
For a lie where you're alive.
