A Poem by E.V. Black

Love is an illusion, falling is a delusion

Love is an illusion,

falling is a delusion

that people might be good,

to be as they should,

it’s faulty and stupid

to be nailed by Cupid,

to think people care,

that they might share

feelings for you,

that it might be true

is plasticly fake

as a rubber cake,

all frost and no chew,

no substance to bite into,

and that hope? in your heart?

it’ll tear you apart

until you’re all

            tangles and shreds,

            gangles and threads,

stuffing seeping through seams,

and there it all teems…

a red pool of use,

proof of the abuse,

behind closed doors,

oozing from pores,

the look in their eyes,

searching for the prize,

the treasure they seek

is the you that’s weak.
