The oldtimer

The oldtimer

A Poem by DrD

They took me off the streets last year
I knew, it was age and condition
Now assigned to the Property Room
And the treasures the D.A. calls evidence
My wife and kids think I should be angry
To them, I was the perfect cop
Well, I did my job the best I could
Now I count days until my pension

The Cold Case boys visit me a lot
Mostly about the State Park Killer
A serial slayer of pretty young girls
Two decades without an arrest
But if my family’s angry, I laugh each day
Because this is just what I planned
Oldtimers get sent to the Property Room
Before they’re put out to pasture

But my case is different, you see
Because now, what they’ll never find
Is my DNA, or any evidence at all
Of my old hobby through all the years
