The yellow dress

The yellow dress

A Poem by DrD

We never kissed in public

You didn’t like that.

“I don’t need to show people

That I love you

They should be able to see

My yellow dress.”

I didn’t understand:

There were so many of your ideas

And traditions unknown to me.

“Your dress is white,” I observed

And you giggled and held my arm tightly

Pressing your cheek against my chest.

“In Italy a woman wears her love

Like a yellow dress

It is bright and brilliant

Because it is the color of her heart

And all the wonders in it.”

You told me with a sweet nod.

It was then I saw it.

The simple yellow dress

That clung to the splendor of you

And sang hymns in adoration

To the trinity of us

You and me and love

There's really three people in every loving relationship: the you, the other, and the we. Your love paints you as one being --- the two clung together in an infinite embrace that makes you appear as one. That you grasp the trinity is beautiful.
