Ocean's Pull

Ocean's Pull

A Poem by ExposedSiren
"

I went swimming at night, and found the ocean current stronger than usual. It was so much harder to get back to shore than I planned...

"
A lesson I should have learned long ago...
That I should not resist forces larger than me,
Ancient powers beyond my control.
Yet, I refuse for my future to be written,
and as such, my fortune remains untold.
In every moment,
There are things I could shift,
Push ever so slightly in,
or out,
of place.
How do you know when to ride it out,
or to pull away from the tide?
You don't.
That's the point.

The note describes the subject of the poem as an actual event. Still, it could be a metaphor for life. Never approach the uncharted cavalierly. It could be the last thing you do.

Thank you for reading and responding. Whilst the uncharted may call to you, try to beware the risk.
Such wise and truthful words. Your intro about swimming at night captured my attention, considering I actually drowned at age 13, but the message of your poem is so strong. Life truly does and can change on a dime. Thank you for sharing your poem.

I love the lines "I should not resist forces larger than me, Ancient powers beyond my control. Yet, I refuse for my future to be written." It works well to describe both your experience of being pulled by powerful waves in the ocean, but it also hits home when one thinks about how powerless we can all feel in life. Nice poem, I really like it!
