The Pieces Still Lie

The Pieces Still Lie

A Poem by Expression
"

This is my favorite early poem. I hope you like it!

"

I met and fell for you.

You caught me like a fish,

With your rod of charm,

With your line of love.

But the pieces of my heart,

The pieces still lie.

You put in your work.

The spreadsheets of time,

The inventory of given gifts,

The conferences on us.

But the pieces of my heart,

The pieces still lie.

You've tried to put it back.

Back the way you wish you found it,

With your glue of care,

With your craftsmanship of trust.

But the pieces of my heart,

The pieces still lie.

It's been thrown around,

Stomped on and ripped apart,

Picked up and tossed around

All in a mess for you to clean up.

But the pieces of my heart,

The pieces still lie.

I'ts not your fault.

I gave in too quickly to lust.

Not love like I thought.

Now look at me.

The pieces of my heart,

The pieces still lie.

Work along with me,

To pick up where I went wrong,

To fix this fragile piece of me.

Work with me to mend my broken heart

So the pieces of my heart,

The pieces no longer lie.

This is one of my favorite poems I've read. I love how in each stanza you have a different references, like fishing, building things, and putting things back together. I think that was really creative. I like the progression of emotion as well. It goes from you got me, you tried, I fell, it was my fault, please help me. That shows great maturity and skill to have progression like that instead of all one overall feeling
