Lost Heart

Lost Heart

A Poem by Rockfalcon
"

This may have originally been set to a tune of some kind. I don't actually remember.

"

There was a girl
her heart was purple and each morning
she would take it out and lock it in a box
beneath an oak tree
and walk away
and she would go throughout her day
with her heart so far away
she missed the sound of laughter
of her friends, the wounds that only
love can mend, the shimmer of the world
when you can look and see
she walked on past and didn’t care
the cold wind tangled in her hair
the skies as gray as her eyes with no light
because although her eyes were clear
the crying world she couldn’t hear
and she was blind to all there was to see

There was a boy
his eyes were green his hands were gentle
and one day he found a box
beneath an oak tree
and he thought maybe I’ll
find the girl without a heart
and give her back her love
and life and smile
He journeyed far and wide and
Everywhere he asked for the girl without a heart
because her eyes would be gray and her skin would be cold
she wouldn’t laugh and she wouldn’t smile
And likely she would be
lonely
and finally one day he found her
and she stared at him, with the key around her neck
and the boy handed the box to her
and she took back her heart
and her eyes glimmered with light and she took his hands and smiled
and kissed him beneath the moonlight
for he had given her heart back
because she had forgotten where it was
and what it was like to feel
