The Messenger

The Messenger

A Poem by Starr

Go shoot the messenger
Who volunteered his time
To come and ruin your day
And watch as you break apart.
Who does not believe that you deserve
To mourn the loss of your delusion in peace,
but shrugs with a roll of the eyes
And reminds you he had nothing to do with it.
He did not.
He only came to watch the crazy woman over react
And reassure his dominance
and superiority.
He waves his hands carelessly
To calm one who will not be calm
And gives up easily
Laughing and making note to tell
the others all about it
Assuming he’s out of ear shot
But not really caring.
Go shoot the messenger
With his selfish words and vampiric use of emotion
He doesn’t care
He never will
Go shoot the messenger
