That Would Be Us

That Would Be Us

A Poem by Kelsey

We lose track of meaning and suddenly it doesn’t mean anything anymore

Why are we still breathing beating hearts thinking brains expanding stomachs

Giving birth to our continuous timeline

We will never be forgotten forgiven lost in distinction

So long as we provide fertility

Divorce could be of treason

Dividing the things once again as before we learned to share

Bitter endearments of rage and satire

Flogging until we wither each other down to bare bones

Brutality serves us best with the unrest in our soles

We carry one other’s weight for years even yet apart burdening our backs

Or we could stop this train now and have the disaster that would be us saved from broken tracks

Brutal and a little weird. The first three lines and the last one seem powerful to me. I liked the bitter anger or maybe disappointment or maybe a sparkle of hope in it.
