Alone

Alone

A Poem by Faith Anderson
"

This poem is not necessarily personal; I was walking and little fragments and sentences came to my mind for whatever reason, I decided to roll with my thoughts.

"
white waves pierce my skin
i feel the salt
rubbing and ripping my skin

apart

my eyes sting
my eyes, a fountain

i can only taste the watery mucus
smothering the back of my throat

the sand,
cold and hard beneath my raw skin

i can hardly breathe

where are you?

This was kind of challenging because I'm not sure I like the word "smothering" here, I don't know if that's the best word to use but I felt it had a menacing and negative connotation to it, which was what I was wanting. There's probably a better word to use, any suggestions?

this perfectly encapsulated my feelings of my first love. So raw and powerful emotionally in that experience it made me fear to ever love again. Thank you for sharing your work.
