365 is Golden

365 is Golden

A Poem by Havefangswilltravel

Feel the tension
These taxidermies come alive when our backs are turned
Revisions made to life and gesture
Their stance is quite poetic

Those mummies make me shudder
To the dust, we will return, but it doesn’t stop my skin from crawling
The sardonic grin from the skulls across the way
It knows my fears, it knows what is underneath
In another 100 years, I’ll be their mirror image

Life is put into perspective
When you are sitting a room full of skeletons
Simpletons cross themselves, while the scientists inspect
We choose to compare ourselves
These ribs bones once flexed as ours do now
Breathe in, breathe out
We’re one step closer to the objects of our observation
But, as we well know,
Those are just a caging for the soul

Father Elephant,
You remember me
You’ve seen all the tears, all the smiles, all the camera flashes
What passes beyond those eyes never returns
The same old man looking up at you
Was the same youngster who gaped with a lollipop, 50 years in the past
How I wish I could be like you
You observe without the passing of judgement and condemnation of mankind

365, 365, 365
A smile to my face that rivals that T-Rex
I’m waiting for you in the doldrums of late winter last year
Time... History is natural
