Flash Flash Flash

A Poem by Ben Walton
"

"Read the part and return at five It's a hell of a role if you could keep it alive."

"

My lips turn blue and my hands are cold for once.
I feel the warm words leave my mouth;
dripping down like rain, pouring over themselves
pouring over eachother.
The soft hum of cameras and the warm glow of the
speakers and lights
flash
flash
flash flooding the aisles, drowning the audience;
words and words
lights and lights
soundwaves and soundwaves
crash
crash
crash.

I breathe in and feel the icy air
as it enters my lungs. My diaphragm expands, my lips move and
words.
I walk forward and say words I've repeated a million times
and tonight is the only night anyone has listened.
I'm center stage and the curtain shuts behind me
and I'm all alone, blinded by the lights drowning everything
except for me as
I swim through the lights like water.

I like reading this piece. I feel like this every time I take the stage. There are times I don't get stage fright, yet I can never anticipate when it will actually happen. Then, something happens and I remember why I am onstage...to deliver a craft I have practiced a million times. I know it's perfect when I've gotten the part. Very nice! 2008?
