Cartwright and Kenton

Such is the tale of a king, but not the one from Tupelo,
Young frontier man, trailblazin' the big sand of the Tutelo,
Or Totteroy as it was known, now a ribbon of toxic foam,
and the burg below Grundy's became Cartwright's home.

Now immortalized, but the courthouse's not in Covington, surprise!
bove Decoursey yard at banks of Licking, Independence hides.
Simon and Samuel, now smokes in the wind circling mouth of Scioto.
Threaded 'tween sacred mounds of the Hogeehaygee, now called the O-hio.

The long ditch once reached the burning Cuyahoga, cat-tails now at the helm,
Not far away, upon the Pickaways, sways the ghostly trunk of Logan's elm,
No more boats crossing over water on bridge filled with water, history drained.
Yet still the mounds horseshoe the four valleys Teay's River maimed.

And Michael Tygard, forget me not, closer to home fortune was sought,
up to the stone box canyon, above the caves, where the timber was got,
still i'm torn 'tween the burg and mouth of Sandy, Simon and Sam bid farewell,
Fredericktown's fine but the mouth of Elk has gone to hell.
