e-gi-ya-ni-ha

A Poem by FarisGreybear

e-gi-ya-ni-ha. = we are.
f.greybear, 10-6-2014

Together in one house, mom and dad,
brothers and sisters, dogs and cats, We are.

Many homes on both sides of this street,
same name posted from corner to corner, We are.

This village town, and neighborhood that surrounds,
blocks, community, municipality, We are.

Red and white, white and blue, fans long and true,
alumni and local pride, school name here, We are!

Within these county lines, marked on highway signs,
schools and cities in one courthouse, We are.

Between dashes on the map, rivers, and ridges,
rural, urban, many counties, one great state, We are!

Several sovereigns, united in one republic,
nationality, one reality, one public, We are.

All upon two legs, spread across the continents,
one species of life, one human people, We are.

Plurality of consciousness, together celebrated,
mitakuye' oyasin, Lakota words mean, "all related, We are."

It's we, not me, thus it's just us, together, justice, we are.
