Death to a Poet

Death to a Poet

A Poem by Fatum

Death to a Poet

Has not a thing to do

with end-stopping.

Nor is it the turn of a page

or even the closing of a book.

When an apple falls it is either

picked up and eaten.

Or it decomposes and leaves behind

it's seed for another season.

A child who shakes deaths hand

before it's first spank and breath

has reason to thank a god that it

never had a chance to do or see evil.

A bottle of wine can be quick to go

but the kisses it causes can lead to a sequel.

When day flashes by burning up, embrace the night

so you can witness morning rise from the ashes

No death to a good man and his poetry.

May his name be remembered

and his art forever hold

it's potency.
