Defiance.

Defiance.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Defiance.

Oceans cross curving world by
throwing their tonnage
of ebb and fall while cliff-high
granite holds back floods
to bolster earth's yielding sides
so safer feel folk
when near coastline residing.
Courageously yoked
against loud crashes and cries
of tide's pounding maw
determined folk keep fighting
to tie boats on shore
with naught more than defiance

Sometimes defiance is all you have in the face of the power of the sea. Pulling on lines to drag the boats to safety...There is something about tides that are fascinating...there are far more than just the in and out.
The tides on the Bay of Fundy drop 40 ft. leaving good sized fishing boats hanging from the sides of piers.
Very impressive.
There is a feeling on a sea coast...awe at the power of waves...the clean smell of salt air...the constant wind and at the same time a silence in the soul.

Good write, Fay.
