Lonely Dance

Lonely Dance

A Poem by Fin Buckley
"

If only they spent less time thinking, and more time looking.

"

Entire worlds are cast between two children

Who move to the steps of a lonely dance

That slowly draws them closer.

They stride around marble sized planets

And extinguish the ancient glow of stars

Beneath their plush feet. They move into

The orbit of suns and cast shadows so large

They black out planets for years, yet

Time does not affect these children

In the slightest. Both are only concerned with

The next step,

The next motion,

     The next thought.

They pass by each other but are too occupied with

The placement of their feet to notice. Simple glances

Are not taken, whispers are left unheard, and shadows

Overlap but never formally meet. A painfully pleasing

Dance of could-have-been's and what-if’s

Lost in the infinite spread of space.

The dance goes on, and they begin

To drift apart once more.
