I Too Have Friends

Those two eyes I still admire

Blazing like a furious fire

Looking straight at the eyes of mine

I saw them in the woods so divine

He had some spots so bright

Saw them shining in the dim light

Looking at his eyes I saw them cry

To run away it then did try

Thinking as if his death was tonight

Mistook I was a person not right

I removed my glove and raised my hand

Racing towards me with his legs pushed the sand

Stood there for a few movements still just like a rock

Seemed as if our eyes did all the talk

Then was heard a sound so loud

It was of the coming hunter’s crowd

There were knights with their swords in lanes

It was the mad king’s royal hurricane

I saw him bend his head a bit down

As if pleading to be protected from the crown

I nodded in response for him to see

For the first time to me someone plea

Within some movements it ran so far

Oh yes I’ve been friend to a jaguar.

Very imaginative & playful! You sustain rhyme & rhythm with solid regularity. At the beginning, your rhymes feel a little simple (often-used rhyme schemes) . . . but as you go along, your rhymes become more well-developed & interesting. Thru the last half of your poem, you pick a rhyming word for WHAT IT MEANS more than to get the rhyme. Great details to SHOW instead of tell (first rule of good writing). Fondly, Margie
