Ruined Nights

Ruined Nights

A Poem by Ryan J. Sanders

A poem of pain, hopelessness, suffering, and a great evil, with a unexpected twist.

Ruined Nights

Ryan Sanders

My mouth agape, my blood turns cold

Like a man staring the apocalypse in the face

My demons take shape from fears untold

And my nightmares stand up and give chase

And like a soldier facing impossible odds

My hands begin to shiver and shake

And like a man forsaken by all of his gods

My faith and hope quiver and break

And like a thief who steals a penniless purse

I feel like my uses are few

Still staring me down is my task--my curse!

That as a slave I know I must do

And like a man who is enraged right out of his head

My tongue I can no longer bite!

For like a sword, poorly moored, above of my bed

My homework ruined my night!

I'm seventeen. I like to write, especially comedy (parodies, ridiculous humor, and dark humor mostly) and I'm a pretty decent poet, though I never count syllables because I've got better things to do .. more..
