30582

A Poem by Brett Forsythe
"

True story. Truth about the RCMP and other police forces as well. I wrote this with the utmost respect. Much heroics is overlooked until we are faced with tragedy.

"

30582,

What would this ever mean to you?

You’ll find nothing, or so I assume,

But what if I were to say,

A member of war died across seas today,

What would this ever mean to you?

He’s a hero of war who deserves a salute?

This may be true but where are the others,

The broken heart pieces to children and mothers,

They continue to fight the invisible war,

Against hate, crime, and drugs, so justice remains,

But what would this ever mean to you?

They’re the reason your father wasn’t slain,

Mother raped, and you grossly aborted,

The daily risk they place ahead,

They may not kiss their spouse again,

Aware their kids may grow up one parent short,

Still they extinguish the sparks of hell,

But what would this ever mean to you?

Few see and truly understand,

The hope and freedom that blankets this land,

Earth was not just born this way,

There is life after life that continues to pay,

30582,

What should this ever mean to you?

The life of a man who put so much at stake,

His wife and two boys who have never lost faith,

Placing the lives of his family at risk,

Providing mercy for all who don’t realize it,

The youngest son would pray through the night,

That his Daddy would come home alright,

With a forfeited name,

There’s a number he claims,

This is his identity,

God only knows if he will die a statistic,

So 30582,

Does this mean anything to you?

It is more than a name,

A symbol or badge,

This is the man who I’m proud to call Dad.

Brett, I am simply silenced with tears. This piece, is a truly wonderful insight some of us, including you and I, feel towards our military men and women. This piece kind of caught me off guard as well because in 6 months I'm leaving for basic training and technical school, and after that? Who knows where I will be, and it's a scary thought, but I am WILLING to go anywhere, I want to be where I can help. It may be hard on my family, but they understand this is what I have to do, no what I NEED to do. It is a part of me. I completely understand every word, phrase, and painful pause in this poem. But I thank you for writing a piece that applies to me and my life and what is to come in my future. It is a breathtaking piece that brought me to tears because every word is true. Not many people realize the amount each and every soldier pays for the price of their hopes and freedoms, and who knows what prices I will pay. Thank you, you truly are growing as an author, and for the better.
