Picasso's Purge

Picasso's Purge

A Poem by Fran Marie
"

contest write

"

Into her life darkness had crept

whose eyes shed tears, while soul has wept

dagger's prolonged cut, stabbed too deep

with jagged edge fate left to reap

Come, step inside agony's dreams

   no salvation 'pon angel's wings

taste bitter grief I purge in stain

  twisted torment.. painted in pain

Corrosive drops drip from black eyes

must cleanse this curse with vibrant vibes

bird of death has whispered its threat

in ears that hear its fury met

flower's flair lend no gay laughter

'tis but thorn's wreath of disaster

strife continues to line her face

a damp dark tomb; her resting place

Congratulations on winning my Figurative Formula contest! To start off with, this piece really stood out to me because of the styling. It feels like a blend of modern poetry and something from the Shakespearian era (in some sense, that is). The title really drew me in, and seeing such a styling ensured that I read until the very last line. There is fairly creative use of painter related themes here, which I really thought made a nice blend with the melancholic story you are presenting here, and you provided figurative language with flying colors here. You provide us with some creative imagery with lines such as "Corrosive drops drip from black eyes", "Step inside Agony's dreams" and "twisted torment...painted in pain". There are many other lines I loved, but those just stood out more to me. Anyway, from the moment I read this, I had a feeling I was going to give it first place for the reasons I just provided above. Fantastic art, Fran Marie! :)

I never understood how or why he painted the way he did. But your write is really expressive of feelings exposed while viewing. Nice one Fran.. Valentine

Yes as under the chin it looks like an envelope. Perhaps a good by from her lover. Kathie
reminds me of Poe's "Cask of Amantillado" somewhat...very dark piece.
well, written in beat and rhyme.

Thanks Jacob, so very much.. yes, it is a bit on the darkside..
Wow, I just don't know what to write because I feel the dampness in that 'dark tomb' and it chills me. A beautifully dark rendering of words from the painting.
