Hurt

Hurt

A Poem by Fran Marie

I know, don't tell me
you gave me your heart
and I treated
   it unkind
 if only I had taken

               the time

to sift through your
  surrendered feelings
instead of
folding them into
sullen shadows of a dark night

              It might

have turned out different.
you and me ..
our dreams drowned
in spent tea leaves
at the bottom of a cracked cup
 made for
     a different drink of love

Each of us is so unique that often we don't meld together, for many reasons. It seems here that harm has been done, and there may be some regrets, but it's possible that both parties have been hurt, even though one initiated it. Relationships need work all the time; and one mistake shouldn't cause a breakup, but often it does. Your emotional words add to this complicated issue. Very well written.
Best, B.

fabulous last stanza...such a powerful climax to a strong poem...mismatched, cracked cup...the glue won't fix the relationship.

Thank you Fran this is a poem. It has me looking back at old relationships that were lacking in attributes to have made them stronger. We live and learn in love. Thank you for sharing your work.
