Pink Pretense

Pink Pretense

A Poem by Fran Marie

Foreboding darkness looms
and wind howls like a
wild wolf on the prowl

miles of rough terrain
speak in surreal whispers in
soft pink pretense of calm auras

    still eerie sounds are heard
and the sky grows darker than pitch

slivers of moonlight barely peek
through trees as if ripped
from a fairytale fantasy

earth and sky blend together
in a two- dimensional line..

then there was only
 the sound of silence fading
like a distant echo
Into shadows of the night

What a wonderfully descriptive offering of an evening in the wilderness. I've spent a few nights camped out in those wild and inaccessible areas. I always worry about bears the most and the occasional bobcat or cougar. I woke one morning and went down to a stream to see a black bear run down one bank of the river and up the other side. His stride wasn't even slowed by the steep incline. I thought, well, if that animal wanted to catch you, you'd just be caught. I enjoyed the read.

Very vivid images describing a haunted night with eerie sounds and a sliver of a moon, and then the silence.. perfectly set scene.

you had me sitting out in a field, late at night, hearing all of these sounds and wondering if whatever was making them was getting closer...
really like the atmosphere of this one, Fran,
