Journey

Journey

A Poem by Fraser Murray
"

Slightly rambling and random but I wrote this over the past couple of nights and I might as well share it anyway

"
Perpetual motion, devotion to a cause unknown, a path that we travel with friends or alone
Whether muddy or paved or pitted with potholes, we wander on writing a tale of our own,
An act which for many will never be shown despite all of our dramas, romances and tragedies,
Only in death will we see what the meaning is, briefly deceased before wiping our memories,
Returning from peace to create brand new enemies;
Crying and screaming, re-enter the world and the first thing we hear "it's a boy", "it's a girl",
As the cycle continues our wings may unfurl or retract, far from fact this merely a theory,
An abstract attack on the weak and the weary, the knowledge I lack is in how to state clearly that this not morbid,
I hope that you hear me and smile at the thought of existing forever,
That reincarnation forgets who was clever or pretty or kind,
The replacement of minds with machines used to seem like the the best way to sever the ties that still bind us to lies told inside,
Maybe bridge the divide between us and our true selves, no matter how wide,
But no longer; we're stronger than wires and switches, a fleshy device that converts light to pictures and sparks into feelings,
No witches or wizards can hope to come close to this magic existence,
In peeling back layers of delusion we witness the richness of life, a journey through struggles and losses and strife,
But still worth it as fruits of our labours turn ripe and descend from their branches to gently remind us that nothing is pointless;
All failures are pointers, lessons and lectures which slowly anoint us with logic we lacked when we failed in the past,
Until goals that escaped us are finally grasped and replaced,
There's a finishing line but it's less like a race and more like a comedy; set your own pace and stare death in the face when it comes,
Greet his shadow with grace and just laugh til the air has departed your lungs;
You deserve it for serving since you were so young,
Though you may be forgotten, your songs never sung,
Cling to hope for your journey has barely begun.
