Bloodshed America

Bloodshed America

A Poem by Rachel D
"

A spoken word concerning the major social issues going on in America today

"

Freedom tis of thee,

Land of liberty,

That’s what we are told

Freedom and Justice for all

Is what we recite

But if it’s true why marginalized groups are forced to fight?

Is it worth the bloodshed of violence seen in the streets?

Is it worth the yells and screams for rights society should meet?

Why does the government act like every uterus is theirs?

Why did we elect a fascist who doesn’t care?

Why did we prove how racist is our nation?

Why do we set fire to refuge of religion?

If it is etched as a right in our constitution?

Why do people still have to hide their sexuality?

In 2017, winding back the clock to 1950,

Why do we sexualize bodies?

Of those who aren’t men

Why do we hate others?

Just because they aren’t like us

Blood isn’t always what comes out of us,

Blood is caused by rage,

Blood is caused by bigotry,

We should be land of the free,

Where everyone deserves liberty

Oppression renders a nation weak. But there are always those who refuse to be silent. So keep writting!
