"Goodbye"

"Goodbye"

A Poem by Kaitlynn Fuson

"Your words rolled off your tongue like water on the shore, but I was still.
Your mouth, the same place I had once found comfort in when pressed against mine, was moving, but I heard no words. I was deaf to the pain coming towards me.
My hands were shaking.
I couldn't tell if it was from the cold or the withdrawal that they were experiencing from the grasp of your own.
Either way, I was in the fast track to losing myself, and j could feel myself fading away like the fallen leaves that surrounded us on the cold, October ground.
I gathered enough courage to listen, or at least look at what you were saying.
I could see your lips moving.
God, I wanted to kiss them, but I knew I would be left with nothing but a bitter taste in my mouth.
My heart went from racing to being seemingly motionless.
I felt all of the life leave me, just like you had chosen to do.
"Goodbye," you said.
You walked away, but I stood still.
You left me, and with you, went a piece of me."
