The Mother of All Things Real

The Mother of All Things Real

A Poem by Gabby Nieves

Alone with nature,
The forces that water us
as we walk,
blinded by societal recreation
and petty issues
The soothing sounds
of the ocean's waves
and cascades of breezes
kissing the branches
Alone//Free

This is a sweet song for the multitudes of us of similar minds who prefer nature's soothing balm to the complicated, messy trappings of today's world. "Societal recreation"--that's a term I'll have to remember.

Back when I lived with my parents, I used to go walking through the woods behind our house sometimes, and it was so calming and peaceful. No sounds. Nobody else around. Just take a book back there, sit on a bigass log, and read with no distractions. Of course, being alone in my room at night when it was quiet and reading by lamplight was pleasant, too. As long as a book and being alone were involved. Never was one for going to the bar and socializing. All that smoke...ugh. Plus, I doubt anyone wants to see this white boy get drunk and try to dance. Not pretty. But I digress.

Thanks for posting this, and bringing back peaceful memories.
