My Terms

My Terms

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

My love for you

Was the love I loved best

The least well received

And most freely expressed

You had all the control

And you used it to hurt

Consuming on your terms

And treating like dirt

So now it’s my turn

To try my hand at the reigns

Not to teach you a lesson

Or to cause you any pain

It was always your way

No matter the cost

You stomped on my heart

Until all hope was lost

You think badly of me

And if there’s one thing I’ve gained

It’s knowing your mind

Can never be changed

Though I never gave reason

You pushed me aside

I was never good enough

No matter how I tried

It never was love

That was between us two

It was selfishness and games

And nothing better to do

Though it hurts to walk away

I just cannot believe

That I already feel

So greatly relieved

Farewell and so long

It’s time to leave me be

I am off to find happiness

You no longer hurt me

My terms are goodbye

This is the end

I am through with emptiness

There’s nothing left to mend
