Dead Weight

Dead Weight

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

What a thankless
job I have
to raise you up
and make you glad

While my joy
fades far away
As I tend to
you each day

This "friendship" has
become no more
than useless scam
and tiring chore

An empty shell
of take and take
you ply me with
sweet words you fake

My head is clear
though truth does bite:
you're no more than
a parasite

The road ahead
a lonely fate,
when left alone
to navigate

I tried my best
to see it through
nothing's changed,
to hell with you

To be free from the weight of the dead. Your poem exposes a negative side to our modern technology. With the ease of sending messages and images across the world comes the ease of calling an 'acquaintance' a 'friend'. The strength and beauty of true friendship gets watered-down and is lost in a thick forest of mere acquaintances. Thank you for sharing these words of truth, dear poet.
