A Tranquil Death

A Tranquil Death

A Poem by alan dietrich
"

I feel like I'm ripping a real personal part of myself and hope I tackled some of the subjects in this piece with the sensitivity they deserve

"

From above it’s hard to believe but it’s true.

There being gently tossed by the river

like a leaf lie a dead man.

Out here in this hillside forest away

from everyone he knew.

Just like he wanted.

The past few weeks had been spent in silent self reflection.

In a more ironic sense as how can you reflect if you feel

like there is not a single thought running

through your head.

Conversation felt impossible

and every step feels like lifting a weight inside his core.

One day he simply left without saying a word to anyone he knew

and leaving no note behind.

A quiet retreat

a peaceful death.

That's all he wanted.

Now here he is looking like one with the mountains.

Hands slightly touching one another on the chest and a still neutral expression etched on his face.
