Why Do I Love You?

Why Do I Love You?

A Poem by Garrett P.
"

A poem about that complicated mess we call love.

"

Why Do I Love You?

I ask myself every day, ‘Why do I love you?’

The answer is clear:

I love you because the very sight of you puts a smile on my face,

I love you because you understand me more than anyone,

I love you because you should drive me crazy,

But you can’t, no matter how hard you try.

I love you because you make me laugh when I don’t want to,

I love you because you are my comforter,

I love you because I have no other choice.

But something is wrong,

For the very sight of you utterly destroys me,

For I understand that you will never be mine,

For I want you to drive me crazy,

But you cannot, no matter how hard you try.

For when I don’t want to laugh,

It is because I am breaking at the impossibility of you and me forever,

For you are the reason I need comforting,

For there is no other choice.

And so I ask myself every day, “Why do I love you?”

The answer is unclear.
