She Had My Eyes

She Had My Eyes

A Poem by Gary McDonald

She had my eyes for moment fleeting
but you have my heart's eternal beating
so wandering eyes be damned, if say you
but lose the beauty that gave them life of you.

Now hand to chest we stand, so free
to feel that which I own for thee
a rhythm in gentle slumber of night
this love to see beyond this sight.

Know it's there for you to be
the Angel atop this ocean, free
no more shall these eyes burden ours
or pluck I shall from deepest bowels.
