Selfless: Selfish

Selfless: Selfish

A Poem by Gastroc.

once handed everything you thought
you ever wanted
you're bound to throw it back
just to see if it sticks
because we
as people
long to
pick up the pieces
and watch as others pity us
for being so strong in battles
we ourselves picked
and we need to tell the world
of our accomplishments despite
hardships
but the eyes of half-listeners glaze on
over
as they're all just formulating ways to get themsleves
noticed;
in one ear and
out the other.

Loved the solid truth of this from beginning to end. The originality of the hyphenated word "half-listeners" was refreshing. It's a thumbs up, five star write.
