These Lazy Eyes (Any Hope of Hope)

These Lazy Eyes (Any Hope of Hope)

A Poem by Michael Jewel Davis
"

The final moments of a tormented soul . . .

"

THESE LAZY EYES (ANY HOPE OF HOPE)

These lazy eyes, half covered, half opened,

a very sluggish walk on the beach, arms wrapped around a timid body,

These lazy eyes see not what is before them, but only the walls of madness of the past,

every footstep growing heavier, each step sinks deeper and deeper into the sand,

These lazy eyes are covered by shaking hands, shielding falling tears from the world,

every rain drop becomes one with the tears, the sun ducks underneath the horizon,

It is hiding from me, just like the ones I love, who have abandoned me . . .

These lazy eyes ignore the shadow slowly following each step,

every step is another step towards the plunge within that shadow, a walking grave stalking relentlessly,

These lazy eyes glow with rage as the tide begins to erase each step that was left before the last one,

every step taken is one removed, a metaphor for disastor, a blemish upon one's soul,

These lazy eyes look away from the inevitable, and focus on the stalking shadow,

every step it grows larger as the sun descends faster,

These lazy eyes close as the heart rate increases, fueling the desire to retire into the shadowy grave,

every step the will to resist the crushing temptation is being fought to the death by sorrow and solitude,

These lazy eyes, tightly closed grow tighter, the feet in the sand are replaced by knees,

every rain drop unites with the tide to completely erase all those lonley footsteps left behind,

These lazy eyes open wide, accompanied by the scream from a broken soul, releasing the inner demons,

every second stretches to minutes,

These lazy eyes close shut for the last time, the head falls limp, and a final breath is taken,

every heart beat reduces in speed and reluctantly . . . stop.

These lazy eyes retire into darkness,

every raindrop falls upon the body which slips away into the stalking shadow,

These lazy eyes see only a void of nothingness,

every sound is reduced to silence,

These lazy eyes wish for a second chance,

only . . .

any hope of hope . . .

is gone.
