Quilt

Quilt

A Poem by Gatlianne

QUILT

I sleep
Protected by the energy
That flowed from my grandmother’s
Fingertips
As she worked needle and thread
Creating tiny stitch after tiny stitch
On a quilt spread across
The old, wooden quilt wrack
Pulled down from the attic
To fill the less than spacious living room
Taking its place
In the middle of the worn and peeling linoleum floor

She sat and stitched
Watching her “stories” on the television
Watching me play through the window she faced
Placing stitches in a quilt
That would one day
Rest on my bed-
Watching me in slumber
As she did at play
