What Once Was

What Once Was

A Poem by Victoria

I havent yet resorted

To mindless, childish games

I can only look at whats best for me

And ignore the insults he aims

I've fallen in love with what once was

And forgotten the present

Everyday thoughts linger in the past

Back to easier times that werent meant

Words fall away as quickly as smiles and laughter

But actions stay strong through it all

A little girl can't bear this much hurt all alone

Her own rise and fall

She has fallen in love with what once was

As a cold thought caresses her cheek

She runs her fingers down and idea

Her mind bleeds until her mood turns bleek

She turns a second face

Towards yet another love

A life that can be everything

All she needs is a shove

I've fallen in love with what once was

While I'm still in love with him

The first four lines were smooth but after that it kind of veered off for me and lost its rhythm.
"Back to easier times that werent meant" sounds like a forced rhyme and doesn't fit well.
Overall, IMHO, a good poem, just needs work.

Concise reality check on why most people stay in relationships that have moved past their due date.

Beautifully phrased.
