these people weren't in the pamphlets

these people weren't in the pamphlets

A Poem by George Leal
"

Job hunting right now and this is how I feel before applying to new jobs.

"

pregnant cleaners of dirty hotels,

              their knees like sailors knuckles,

                                 needing chiropractors at thirty-two

the hunchbacks in the warehouse,

                   wandering the box labyrinths,

their greatest victory- a monitored toilet break

the kings and queens of the algorithm,

caps lock titles, promises and wide smiles

                                                              balancing on their plastic pyramids

teachers and students collapsing,

                                      victims of the daily grind,

                                                          or the monthly shoot-out

these people weren’t in the pamphlets
