To See The Stars

(A Poem for Star Trek: The Next Generation)

I want to see the stars
To sail the solar sway
If only for a day

I watch you all live in the future
I see your "perfect" society
And soon understand it's price
That you have forgotten who you are

You meet foreign peoples
Romance foreign lovers
See sights that make me shudder
And yet you lose what makes you sing

If only I could see
What you do everyday
Maybe I would feel differently

Alas though I don't live in the future
And all you do is not as foreign as it should be
For when I look at you I see
All that I could be
