Judith

Judith

A Poem by Giorgio Veneto
"

An Iambic pentameter poem. Judith (a historical figure), dances for Holofernes, the king of the Assyrians.

"
Adroit serpent she coils upon the floor
coils on the floor, splendid blue lit and waves,
Datura flow in mind, her glance implores,
her vision passed and on your thought she stays.

Orderly souls are placed on this altar,
her face, her scent, will offer and indulge,
(relentless onset while your thoughts falter),
in haze to pass, and half-exposed divulge.

This dance depicts her ancestral instinct,
enters in veins aconital domain,
no fate is sweeter and more distinct,
than thousand nights to touch her brunette mane.

Her finger cymbals rings, Judith of Laws,
(astounding's her bedleh dress and shalwars,)
attacks in air like desert hawk that claws,
temples and nerves in apathy ignores.

She dances, and her jingling cymbals ring
incursion of a deathly whiff, and rye..
monotonous of Dervish siege she'll sing,
'bout victims of her charm, eager to die.

The Deuterocanonical book states,
slept Holofernes head cut by the blade,
remorseless end she kept for him with fates,
and his Assyrian King's roots did fade.

Emitting an alluring raid of scents,
surrounds your despotism, and coils to thrill,
in the mind and blood she'll recite events,
but dancing Siren weighs her glance to kill.

-------------------------
Bedleh. (Pronounced "BED luh".) In Arabic, this literally means "suit". It refers to the cabaret-style beaded bra/belt/skirt/body stocking costume that a belly dancer wears for a performance.
shalwar. (Pronounced "SHAL war".) An alternate spelling is chalwar. Chalwar are pantaloons. The word originates from Persia.
