Shadows past (The past of Alex) Scene 3 Part 1 The pursuit and then the huntA Story by GlazierAs Alex sprintted after his cousin at full speed, Alex then came to the conclusion that either his death or that of his cousin Theodore could well be close at hand.As Alex landed on his feet after launching himself through the open window of the dwelling that he was soon to leave behind Alex found himself landing off balanced and fall then forward to the ground found himself rolling a good foot or two along the floor of the surrounding forest before springing back upon his feet at which point he took off once again at a fast gallop after his evil cousin.
As Alex ran down a forest path heading east (with trees flanking both to his right and left) Alex came to within twenty feet of his cousin and both of them ran east (one thought to be in full flight and the other thought to be in full pursuit). Alex then some how sensing that he was in trouble could only take notice and watch as he cousin while running ahead of him turned his head while he kept running and smiled at him a cunning and wicked smile as if to say "You fallowed just like I knew you would" Alex's cousin then turning back around and continued running at his fast pace. Alex then some how knew for a fact that he had did indeed run right into Theodore's trap and that it was soon to be sprung.
A moment after the that thought of a trap being sprung had passed through Alex's mind Alex saw first hand then that the trap had indeed been sprung by his cousin and that Alex had indeed with his pursuit of his cousin at first inadvertently walked so easily into the trap and hands of his cousin Theodore. "But what else could he do" thought Alex "But pursue".
And as Alex drew to within fifteen feet of his cousin (no doubt his cousin letting up a little to make draw Alex ever deeper into the trap, for Alex was not fooled now, not in the least) Alex new that he was in true danger now. For Alex witnessed then his cousin employ the backbone of a daywalkers defence and that was the ability to bend (if there was enough light present) the rays of light around his body to make a daywalker anywhere from visible transparent to completely invisible (the level of visiblity being subject firstly to the amount of light present and secondly to the will of the daywalker) the Latter (namely that of being totaly invisible) being what his cousin choose to be then (for thought the night was oncoming there was still enough light present to render a daywalker totally invisible to the naked eye).
As Alex came to a halt from his mading pace of running Alex casted his eyes about in a vain attempt to locat his foe before what he could only think was a pending attack. But it was of no use, for after his cousin had turned himself invisible he was not going to be so careless as to show himself again. For Theodore knew that his life depended on staying hidden.
The only other way of knowing that his cousin was indeed in the area was the sound of leaves moving and the sound of both twigs and leaves crunching beneath his cousin's feet sounding off within the forest surrounding Alex (but those sounds were of little to no use to Alex at the moment for the wind was still blowing in from the south blowing the leaves some twenty feet all around him).
Was his cousin trying to escape Alex's grasp? For before Alex came to a halt (and the wind had picked up again) he could hear the sounds of leaves crunching and see the leaves being pushed away by the act of his cousin walking away. But if his cousin was indeed trying to escape he was moving off at a very slow pace. Almost as if he was trudging through the leaves. And if he was trying to escape then way lead him into a trap (for Alex still felt the uneasy feeling that he was indeed in a trap and the attacker was just waiting for the most opportune time to attack). © 2009 Glazier |
