Wrote this my senior year.

Pain

Sitting at the fire gazing up at the star lit sky
Hoping someone would join me
Someone who would notice the pain inside,
Someone who would try to ease my suffering.

Who would do the seemingly impossible and unimaginable?
Who would step outside themselves to help those in dire need?
In dire need of someone to show them they care.
Who of you would do the seemingly impossible and unimaginable?

Is it because you too hold hurt in your heart?
Hurt that is like a rampant river raging against your body.
Is it your own suffering going on in your body?
That blinds you from that so easily seen, the suffering of others.

What is it that stops us from acknowledging the pain of others?
What is it that stops us from helping those who are in need?
What is it that makes us turn our back on those who need our help?
What is it that prevents us from reaching out to help our peers?

Why is it so hard to stand up for people?
Why are we unable to do things differently?
Why do we not step up for what is in our heart,
Why is it we stand idly by as if we are not there?

Why do we continue our lives like nothing happened?
Why don’t we do anything when someone is torn down before our eyes?
Why do we cause pain like a ruthless terrorist?
Why can we not break the never ending cycle of pain?

Pain is a topic that I often delve into and exploit in a lot of my writing, so I am very familiar with this subject. However, you presented it in a different fashion, something fresh and alive, and I love that! You certainly did a great job with this poem. I also don't read too many poems, yet this flowed brilliantly. Great job!
