Lovers of Ease and Pleasure

Lovers of Ease and Pleasure

A Poem by Amanda Bokovoy
"

This is based off a video I watched called Zeitgeist. Originally written July 24, 2007.

"

We laugh, cry, sing, and dance...
even though they are false emotions.

Colours flash across the screen
    and noise fills our ears,
constantly bombarding us
    with a thousand messages:

"Buy this! Watch that!"
    they tell us constantly.
And like mindless drones, we do.

Keeping us stupid, so we don't
    question them.

They conspire behind our backs,
controlling what the media can tell us,
feeding us only the information
    they want us to know.

"Terrorists" frighten us into
    giving up our freedom,
so that the collars may be tightened
    around our necks.

Year after year, they take our money,
    going against their own constitution.
If we resist? They take it by force,
    going against their own laws.
But, like fools we believe them
when they say they have the right.

And, constantly, the noise and lights
of the entertainment industry to distract us...

While they plot the next war...

And use political marionettes
    as scapegoats.

A very interesting piece of art you have here. I must admit I enjoy the visuals the poem has thrown into my mind and the ideals are very practical. All in all a good read.
