Work In Progress

A Poem by Amanda Bokovoy
"

Good ol' writer's block. Originally written August 5, 2007.

"

"Hark!
What is this I see?
Far across the distance,
over azure waters..."

[ pen scratches haphazardly across the page. ]

No, no, no!
It's no good!

[ frustration mounts, fingers rubbing against temples. ]

"Over the waves,
a ship sails.
Seamen coming home
to their families
once again..."

Bah!
More drivel across my page...

[ crumpled paper, thrown at an already full basket ]

There must be a better way...
to send my message.

I want to be clear, yet metaphorical.
Descriptive, without being too "flowery"
or simplistic, either.

I want to speak from my heart,
while avoiding clichés.

Is that too much to ask?

[ blank paper strewn across the desk ]

I guess... maybe it is, for the time-being.

[ empty chair, darkened lamp ]
